The EISCAT3D Project Leader has now been appointed We have had a lot of interest for the vacancy of Project Leader for  EISCAT3D. The opening has been filled by Mr. Johan Svensson. Johan will start his work at the EISCAT Headquarters in Kiruna, Sweden in January. Johan has been working as a Research Engineer and his experience in this field will be of great use in the EISCAT3D project. The other vacancies has not yet been filled. Celebration for EISCAT_3D

Celebration at Space campus Yesterday EISCAT HQ invited all of the staff at IRF and LTU to join us for coffee and cake, to celebrate that EISCAT_3D have gotten a go ahead. We have known about the start for a while, but vacations and other celebrations have made us wait a bit longer than we planed.   Our director Craig Heinselman held a speech telling us all about EISCAT_3D. EISCAT_3D Opening Event

EISCAT_3D Opening Event Short report (PDF) The opening event for the construction of the first stage of the EISCAT_3D system took place in Tromsø and Storfjord, Norway, on 7 September 2017. The day started in brilliant sunshine with a bus transport to UiT, the Arctic University of Norway, where the first part of the opening event was held. Anne Husebekk, the university rector, greeted us all welcome and Ingrid Mann, the leader of the Norwegian project consortium, presented a general overview of the EISCAT_3D project. This was followed by short addresses from representatives of the EISCAT associate countries from which it was clear that there are high expectations from the international EISCAT user community for the future potential of the new system. Finally, Craig Heinselman, EISCAT director, detailed the technical implementation of the EISCAT_3D system. Svalbard

Assar held a talk about Svalbard Assar works at the Headquarters in Kiruna. He recently returned form Svalbard, where he has been working on our radar site for the last couple of years. Today Assar held a talk about Svalbard. Svalbard is a very special place in many ways. The archipelago belongs to Norway, but through a treaty: Spetsbergtraktaten, Svalbard is open for the Treaty Member States to pursue business activities, hunting and fishing there. It is a interesting place for space science due to it's location near the north pole.   ...
