EISCAT provides and develops advanced tools for scientists from around the globe. We are now preparing to build a new, advanced, ground-based space research facility called EISCAT3D. This facility will be located above the arctic circle in the northernmost parts of Finland, Norway and Sweden.
New technologies and observational techniques are constantly being developed to better support researchers in their quests for answers. Observations of the aurora, solar storms and space weather effects give us a better understanding of how the earth is affected by these phenomena. EISCAT has constantly pushed the limits of science that can be addressed, dramatically broadening capabilities since its first observations were made in 1981.
