How to travel between Tromsø and Kiruna by bus and train
From Tromsø (or Fargernes) to Kiruna
Bus and Train
- The Bus leaves from Tromsø at 0620 everyday except Saturday and
Sunday. You can also catch this bus as it passes through Fargernes at 0645
(the bus stop is just to the north - Tromsø side - of the road leading
up to EISCAT), but you must signal the driver to stop.
- The bus should arrive at Narvik Station at 1110. Leave your luggage in a
baggage locker and check out lovely Narvik until
- The train leaves from Narvik at 1345 and
- Arrives in Kiruna at 1645
- Getting to the bus, and from the railway station to EISCAT/IRF, is left as
an exercise (maybe literally) for the traveller.

From Kiruna to Fargernes (or Tromsø)
Train and Bus
- The train leaves Kiruna at 1115 and
- Arrives at Narvik station at 1403. There's a cafe in the train station
and the prices are OK.
- The bus leaves, from the bus station - not the railway
station, at 1515. Be sure to be there on time or you must stay
in Narvik overnight. The bus station is very close to the raiway station; turn
right on leaving the station and walk up to the main road (E6). You will see
a gas station towards the left and the bus station is next to it. If you get
there early, you will get a better seat.
- The bus arrives in Fargernes at 1935 and in Tromsø at 1955. Watch
carefully for Fargernes or you will be carried on to Tromsø; the
gas station, turning to EISCAT and the hotel are good reference points.
- Getting from EISCAT/IRF to the railway station and from the bus is,
again, left as an exercise (maybe literally) for the traveller.
