The 'Hilton'EISCAT Tromsø has a small accommodation block (universally known as the Hilton) about 40m from the radar building. It has eight small study bedrooms, together with shared bathrooms, a kitchen and a large dining and sitting room. It's basic, but not uncomfortable. The kitchen has a fridge, freezer, micowave, dish-washer, coffee machine and cooker, together with near-adequate storage cupboards and ample stocks of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. The sitting area has a television, but you won't have time to watch it as you will be working, won't you? There is an intercom system, to communicate with the main building (and other places on site), beside the entrance to the dining room, and a public coin-telephone - (+47) 776 92247 - can be found just inside the store room opposite the entrance to the building. In one of the bathrooms, you will find a washing machine and a tumble drier, together with suitable powder for the washing machine. The Hilton is cleaned regularly, but you will make life more pleasant for everyone if you make an effort to clean up as you go along. Supplies of sheets, towels, coffee and tea come as part of the package; life is impossible without coffee - if you run out there should be further stocks in the cupboard under the sink in the radar building kitchen/lunchroom. |
